Tap, Tap, Tap, Is This Thing On?

Um...hi. I'm Rachel.

Which feels like I've just kicked off my blog as if I'm at an AA meeting. Though perhaps this blog will be as supportive and enlightening as group therapy. I'm not really sure how this is going to go. I guess I should just begin and stop talking about beginning.

I'm a 34-year-old graphic designer. Ex-graphic designer, actually. I recently left my job at the New York Public Library to try out becoming a chef. I realized a few weeks ago that I didn't know how to chop an onion, much less master cooking en papillote. So I bought a professional cooking text book and a few kitchen accouterments and I've set up my own cooking school of one in my apartment.

There are actually a lot of "ex"s that apply to my life right now. I am newly divorced. It is really a boring story. My ex-husband started out working ten hour days and ended up sleeping in his office most nights. We never got around to having children because he was never home to have sex. I guess you could say he chose making partner over making love. Or making a family. Or making a life together.

But I'm not bitter.

So...like I said, not really sure where this is going to go. Maybe some recipes? Details of how I learn how to cook? I guess, like all good cliffhangers, you'll just have to stay tuned.

I'm really interested to read your story. I've been intrigued by the entries so far.
